This is the beginning of Peter’s summation of the entire letter. The Apostle Peter is known as the Apostle of Hope, the main thrust of this letter is to: Trust in the Lord, Live in obedience in spite of your circumstances and Keep your focus on God and His promise of ultimate delivery.

So, as Peter says, “Do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening...”
Of course the world is going to push back when we tell them, in Grace, that we aint all that.
That Man is not in control like we think we are.
That there are rules laid out from before time began that we really ought to be following.
That living by our own feelings, wants and desires never ends well for us.
