Who Put a Spell on You?

Series: Unchained

In our current sermon series, we are reminded that because of the power of the Gospel, we are UNCHAINED ... set free to live free lives as believers in Jesus Christ. As we look through the lessons contained in the book of Galatians, we get an opportunity to realize our full spiritual potential through this freedom we enjoy. This week's message comes from Galatians 3:1-5. Paul wrote the churches of Galatia and expressed his concern to them very bluntly, asking them why they had been so easily manipulated by those who sought to diminish the true power of the Gospel. We invite you to listen and be encouraged through the truth and power of God's Word.

Episode Notes

Galatians 3:1-5, O foolish Galatians!  Who has bewitched you?  It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified.  Let me ask you only this:  Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith?  Are you so foolish?  Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?  Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain?  Does He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith—

BIG IDEA:

Don’t give up on those under a spell of deception… God uses His Word to bring clarity.

Galatians 3:1, O foolish Galatians!  Who has bewitched you?  It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified.

1.  You are under a spell of amnesia

Galatians 3:2, Let me ask you only this:  Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith?

How did you receive the Spirit?

Acts 2:38, And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

2.  You are under a spell of confusion

Galatians 3:3, Are you so foolish?  Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

What is the evidence that the Spirit is present in your life?

Matthew 7:21, Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in Heaven.

3.  You are under a spell of misery.

Galatians 3:4-5, Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain?  Does He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith—

What is the relationship between becoming a Christian and receiving the Spirit?

Romans 8:9, You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you.

NEXT STEP:

Share the truth of the Gospel no matter how unreasonable the hearer may seem.

2nd Timothy 2:24-26, And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.
