Betrayed and Alone
Series: The Gospel Can't Be Contained
March 26, 2022
Frank Foreman
It can be difficult to go through challenging times alone. Feeling isolated when you are at your most vulnerable adds to the struggle significantly. It is what Jesus experienced before He went to the cross. First through Judas' betrayal and then the fearful abandonment from the other disciples. Yet, in the midst of all that, He never wavered in His faith and trust in the Father's plan --------- He sets a wonderful example for us as His followers and we would do well to endeavor to follow that example in how we face difficulty in our own lives.
Episode Notes
Big Idea: In the midst of chaos and darkness….
The majesty of Jesus shone as brightly as ever.
1. A betrayer’s kiss.
(Journal) Mark 14:43-45
Luke 22:47-48, While He was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss Him, but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”
1st Peter 2:23-24, When He was reviled, He did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but continued entrusting Himself to Him who judges justly. He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.
2. A disciple’s sword.
(Journal) Mark 14:46-49
John 18:36, Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world. If My Kingdom were of this world, My servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But My Kingdom is not from the world.”
Matthew 26:52-54, Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword.”
Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and He will at once send Me more than twelve legions of angels?
But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?”
3. A young man’s linen.
(Journal) Mark 14:50-52
1st John 4:18, There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because He first loved us.
John 3:18, Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
Next Step: Confess your faith in Jesus every chance you get.
Matthew 10:32-33, So everyone who acknowledges Me before men, I also will acknowledge before My Father who is in Heaven, but whoever denies Me before men, I also will deny before My Father who is in Heaven.
