4 - TEACH

Series: The Commission

The old saying goes, “…those that can’t teach.” A tongue-in-cheek remark about those who have skills to do certain things resort to teaching if that are not able to succeed at their craft. This marginalization of the skill of teaching is, in fact, unfounded. ————— When it comes to our faith and spirituality, we are dependent on teachers who lead both by instruction and example. For many of us, a parent, family member, youth leader, etc. was our first teacher when it came to the beginnings of our faith. But throughout the maturing of our faith, different teachers partnered with the Holy Spirit to make an impact on our lives. ————— The truth is, not matter how far along in our faith we are, we need teachers to guide us. But there is another truth—no matter how far along in our faith we are, someone needs us to be a teacher to guide them. ————— Join us this Sunday, as Frank dives into this fourth and final aspect of the Great Commission... to TEACH... from Matthew 28:18-20.

Episode Notes

Matthew 28:18-20, And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in Heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

2nd Timothy 3:16-17, All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

John 14:15, If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

Big Idea:  Jesus not only calls me to teach…. He equips me to teach.

John 13:1-15, Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.

During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going back to God, rose from supper. He laid aside His outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around His waist. Then He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around Him.

He came to Simon Peter, who said to Him, “Lord, do You wash my feet?” Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with Me.”  Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.” For He knew who was to betray Him; that was why He said, “Not all of you are clean.”

When He had washed their feet and put on His outer garments and resumed His place, He said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.

1.  Jesus love is stated.

2.  Jesus love is shown.
